We are Ken and Joy Hoffman. Together we have over 40 years of experience teaching in California's public schools and abroad. We have four daughters, Ally, Emma, Jennifer and Lucy, and next July we will celebrate our 30th anniversary. We have been in Zambia for 7 years. Joy works full-time managing RHO Appleseed and teaching our two youngest daughters, Jennifer and Lucy. Joy takes no salary and receives no compensation for her work at RHO Appleseed. Ken works at the American International School. Upon our arrival in 2011, we quickly noticed the glaring disparity between those with and those without the opportunity for education and a high quality of life. The dire conditions of people who live in the townships (commonly referred to as housing compounds) are hard to imagine. The Bauleni Township is home to approximately 20,000 people. It is our mission to help provide both quality education and quality of life to orphans and vulnerable children in Bauleni who currently have no opportunity for either.
