Currently serving lunch to approximately 70 children per day, the food program is the most costly but one of the most vital of all of the Appleseed programs. We know that it is imperative that children have adequate nutrition in order to think, grow and develop. We have seen first hand the effects of too little food in both children and adults during our time in Zambia. Appleseed CC serves lunch 5 days per week. We serve a healthy balance of protein, fruits and vegetables. For some of our members, the Appleseed meal will be the only one of the day.
This is a difficult program to sustain and we appreciate any help in keeping it going! We are very grateful to students of The Athenian School, in Walnut Creek, California, for their fundraising efforts over the past 4 years, without their support, we would not be able to serve lunch everyday!

The Arts at Appleseed
Are you an artist? An actor, dancer, singer... A musician, painter, sculptor? Who motivated you? Taught you? Inspired you?
Here at RHOA CC we believe that all children (and children at heart) deserve access to these enriching experiences. The arts program relies on volunteers to keep it going. It grows and changes as the amazing volunteers come and go. Sometimes a volunteer is able to put in the time to train a staff member so that their project can continue. If you have a particular talent or skill that you would like to share with others please contact us. We welcome both local and international volunteers!
The Sports Program
Appleseed has 4 football teams, or soccer, as we Americans call it. Currently, they are all boy teams; Under 8, Under 14, Under 17 and Amateurs. These teams are very active, with the oldest teams playing at home or traveling almost every weekend. They have brought back a number of tournament winning or placing trophies that now adorn the shelves of the Appleseed Community Center Library!
Expenses to operate these teams include: tournament fees, referee fees, transportation fees, association fees, uniforms, balls, nets, water/food during games, etc.... it adds up.
We know that the young men and boys who play for Appleseed love the sport, their team, and Appleseed. Most of them are not in school because they don't have the means to continue. Football offers them something to be a part of, to be proud, dedicated to and to work hard for.
We are proud of how the program has grown out of the pure desire of the players and coaches. Many thanks to Coach Caphas and Shadreck-Team Manager for keeping it all going! To help support the sports program, please donate today!
Secondary School Sponsorship
Sponsorship for the Secondary School program is desperately needed!! School fees are as follows:
Appleseed currently sponsors 10 kids in secondary school, with at least 5 more in grade 7, hoping to go on to grade 8 next January.
After grade 7, school is no longer free. Government schools are not at all equal in quality, so we do our best to place kids where we, and they, believe they will be successful.
We currently have 2 eighth graders at Prince Takamodo School, in Bauleni and 1 eighth grader at Bauleni Street Kids School. Two of them have been sponsored so fees are paid, one has not, so we are seeking sponsorship of school fees for him. His name is Ives. We will provide more information about him to the sponsor, once one is found.
In addition, there are 5 students in grade 9 who need sponsorship. Because they attended the same school last year, they have been allowed to start 9th grade, however, since their fees have not yet been paid they can be kicked out at any time. Please consider sponsoring one of our Grade 9 students. Their names are: Tina, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Rachel, John and Isaac. More information, photos and contact info. will be given to a sponsor once sponsorship has been established.
There is one 10th grader who has a sponsor who has supported him for many years. Jimmy has been very successful in Secondary school. He was even named the Prefect for his class. This is quite an honor and an accomplishment to be proud of!
So for $225 per year, you can provide a child with the education that they otherwise will not be able to attain.
We are also seeking funding for their Appleseed tutoring and lunch program. ( See Tuitions Program)
