Good Things Continue to Happen as the Word Spreads

There are lots of exciting things in the works for RHO Appleseed students! We received notification that the knapsacks earned by the students of American International School, through a California based organization called Project Knapsack,  will go to our Appleseed students!! The AISL students happen to be my current 4th graders, so it works out perfectly. In January, the AISL 4th graders and the 11th and 12th graders who have signed up for our "Bauleni Relief" Global Issues Project will deliver the knapsacks. I can't wait to deliver them and see all of the happy and surprised faces!!

MORE GOOD NEWS!
Appleseed students will perform in the Esparto Community Holiday Hoopla Talent Show!!! Our students are busy practicing songs, dances and a skit to be shown at the show! The kids are overjoyed knowing that people in the USA will be watching them. They have been practicing and will show their acts to the AISL Global Issues group tomorrow! I can't attend as I will be teaching, but Ken will take pictures and video. They will be wearing traditional chitangas outfits, because as they told their teachers, they want to look 'smart.'

This is the oldest group of children. They decided that they wanted to put together a skit. Written and directed by themselves. I have not seen it yet. But they can't wait for it to be video taped and sent off to California, USA!

I appreciate the work you do, commend you. I noticed however you never show your own home? Where do you live, while there, please show your own home as well, otherwise its kinda weird?
I also want to know tht all the money I would send would go directly to the children and to help raise the wage of your teachers etc, to one that equals what you folks give yourself. Otherwise, its just not right anymore to do this any other way. If you quarters are better than, if your wage if better than it would be wrong.
thanks for all your work,
here is to equity.
I would also appreciate your response, thank you.

Thank you for your comments. In answer to you questions:
We haven't shown our home on this site because this site is about the school and the students. Please go to our personal website
www.thehoffmansinafrica.us to see more about how we live. Ken and I are both full time teachers at the American International School of Lusaka. Our housing is provided as part of that teaching contract. We live in a town home on the campus. We started RHO Appleseed School with only money from our monthly paychecks from our full time jobs because it is something that we saw a need for upon arriving in Lusaka, we met these children and couldn't turn our backs. A good portion of our monthly income goes directly to ROH Appleseed School. We do not pay ourselves anything to run Appleseed. All donations go directly to paying for the lease of the building, food for the breakfast and lunch program, salaries for our teachers and our groundskeepers. We have two other members of the community and parents who volunteer to feed the students and clean the building each day. We hope to be able to pay them a monthly salary very soon. With future donations we plan to furnish the school with tables, chairs and book shelves. After this is done, and we can cover all recurring cost to run the school, we will spend the next donations on paying the IRS fee to seek non-profit status. Thank you for inquiring.
